Even as parties are projecting young leaders in their bid to connect with Gen Z voters and the youth, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Thursday dropped hints of sidelining her nephew Akash Anand, saying he needs to become more mature and it would be inappropriate to assign him significant responsibilities at this point.
While there was no official confirmation, sources in the BSP said she has removed Akash from the post of national convenor. Akash was absent from a meeting of BSP’s national office-bearers in Lucknow. However, his younger brother Ishaan Anand was present and occupied the chair usually reserved for Akash.
While BSP general secretary Mevalal said “the message lies in the press release (issued after the meeting)”, another party leader who attended the meeting said, “Behenji did not clarify whether Akash has been removed. Akashji will work for the party as a worker.”
