Researchers at the University of Hyderabad have secured an Indian patent for their groundbreaking innovation, Hyderacene, a dual-action material designed specifically for rocket propellants and high-performance defence applications.History
In solid rocket propellants, two critical components are required: the Binder, a glue-like polymer that holds all active fuel components together while providing structural integrity, and catalyst, a specialised chemical additive that speeds up and controls the burning rate of the propellant.
The Hyderacene developed by three inventors —Mutyalanaidu Ganivada, Sourav Jana, and Tushar Jana—acts as both a polymer binder and a catalyst.City & Local Guides
The new material, according to researchers, replaces Butacene that has long been a commercial standard in defence and space applications. It offers a homegrown, highly effective alternative to standard commercial options.
